best grammar checker 2018

Grammarly is one of the best grammar-checking tools on the market. After trying more than six different grammar checkers, I’m more than happy to finally get my hands on a perfect online tool that corrects spellings, tells about repetitive words, improves sentence structuring, and guides on using punctuations.

It does have multiple features, which I’ll be discussing in this review. So it’s not just an ordinary grammar checker as it has done wonders for me. If you’re a blogger, author, online marketer, or social media expert, then it’s imperative to have a tool in place that does all the writing corrections within a few seconds. It does tell you a lot about your writing, and its system is intelligently designed to recommend changes if necessary.

Full Disclosure: It’s true that Grammarly has helped me improve my writing skills in the last three years. I have been using it for a while now. Now, I promote Grammarly as an affiliate. It means if you buy the Grammarly subscription through my link, it won’t cost you any extra money, but I’ll make a small commission as a reward.

I’ve tested some of the popular grammar checking tools, but Grammarly is my #1 choice for grammar checking. The core reason for my confidence in Grammarly is that this tool is tried and tested over and over again. The interface is quite pleasant, easy-to-use, and seamless. The tool is overall a perfect solution for writers.

Without any further ado, let’s get into the details of Grammarly:

Features of Grammarly

It’s necessary to understand what this tool does for users. If you’re a writer, blogger, or social media expert, you may find this tool fascinating.

Take a look at the features of this tool:

1. Easy Content Processing

There are two ways to input your content for analysis. You can either copy your text and paste it into the Grammarly checker or upload the file and later on download the edited version. Either way, you’ll be able to get your content fixed. The ideal way is to paste your content into the Grammarly checker and remove all the writing mistakes. Once you’re done with the corrections, just copy it and paste it into your original file or download the file onto your computer.

2. Document Type

Grammarly allows you to choose the document type before start working on your grammar and writing mistakes. This feature tells the system to analyze the content according to the nature of the document. It could be general, business, academic, creative, medical, and casual. General, however, is the default document type that works just fine.

3. Grammar and Punctuation

Alongside document type, it also has a bunch of features that are optional, meaning, you can switch them off if you want to. For example, if you want to choose a select number of options from contextual spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and style, then you can do this by switching on the specific feature underneath the document type option.

4. Plagiarism Checker

Plagiarism might not be something of an issue if you’re writing your content, but in case, you work with employees or freelance writers—who happen to be new or unknown to you—then a reliable plagiarism tool would help you analyze the potential plagiarism problems in the content. It saves time when you don’t have to go back and forth from your grammar checker tool to a plagiarism checker tool, thanks to Grammarly because it does all that under the same umbrella.

5. Vocabulary Enhancement

One of the best features of Grammarly is vocabulary enhancement. What it does is that it provides you with the right vocabulary alternatives whenever required. So it teaches how to use the vocabulary in a specific situation by recommending better alternatives.

Benefits of Grammarly

The benefits of any product tell the users what the product can do for them. There are a handful of benefits of Grammarly that you must know:

grammar writing corrections

1. It Corrects Grammar Mistakes

It saves you from embarrassment. It’s understandable that writing without being distracted is impossible. Grammar mistakes could be a possibility when you’re writing long and in-depth blog posts because the focus is always on the subject matter and how you can deliver value through that piece of content. You’re likely to make a few grammar mistakes here and there. It’s not a big deal. Grammarly has got your back. It highlights most of the grammar mistakes so that you fix them.

2. It Fixes the Contextual Spellings

One of the perks of using the Grammarly tool is that it keeps a close eye on the context of the sentence and the spelling of the words. For example, you’d often find Grammarly catching the mistakes such as their and there, affect and effect, and loose and lose.

3. It Tells About the Punctuations

A lot of us miss commas, colons, semicolons, or wrongly use hyphens or any other punctuation mark – so Grammarly does a fantastic job of highlighting those mistakes and recommends changing that to the right form of it.

4. It Improves Sentence Structuring

It’s possible that we may end up writing a few lines that turn out as wrongly structured. Grammarly takes this seriously and pinpoints the sentence-building mistakes right away. Not only does it highlight, but it also shows the recommendations as an alternative.

Plans and Pricing

Besides the free plan, Grammarly does have paid plans. The monthly, quarterly, and annual plans come with different pricing. Let’s take a look at the prices:

Monthly Plan:  It costs $29.95 per month. The user pays month to month.

Quarterly Plan: It costs $19.98 per month and is billed $59.95 every three months.

Annual Plan: It costs $11.66 per month and is billed as one payment of $139.95 every year.

It’s important to understand that the premium version of Grammarly does have its perks. You can’t improve your writing while using the free version the way you can improve while using the paid version. I’ve used both free and paid versions. I have been using the paid version for a while now. In fact, I upgraded from the free version to the paid version, and I won’t be switching back to the free version ever. The reason for this is that the paid plan provides additional checks that take the quality of the content to the next level. All this wouldn’t have been possible if I kept on using the free edition of Grammarly. So I definitely recommend Grammarly Premium to anyone looking to boost their writing, and if you’re a student, Grammarly student discount is available for you.

Why Grammarly

I’ve tested a couple of grammar-checking tools alongside Grammarly, but I didn’t continue using them. I found Grammarly way better than the rest of the grammar and spelling checking tools tested so far. Not only does it have a better user interface, but it also has so many amazing features that make this tool stand out from the rest.

One of the reasons I’m happy with the Grammarly tool is that they have an efficient customer service team. When I was upgrading from the free Grammarly plan to the paid plan, I have had an issue with the payment processing, so I contacted the support team, and they immediately responded and solved the problem within an hour. When it comes to buying products online, customer service efficiency counts a lot.

Conclusion

I’ve concluded that Grammarly has been the best grammar and spelling checking tool that I have seen so far. I’ll be using the paid plan of Grammarly for a very long time until I found a more useful and magical tool than Grammarly.

If you’re looking for an affordable and reliable grammar and spelling checking tool, then I highly recommend trying Grammarly’s premium version. You won’t regret the decision. Again, it’s my opinion; you can disagree with me.

What I’ve seen so far is that Grammarly is a fantastic tool for writers and bloggers who want to pursue their writing or blogging career – especially, for non-native English speakers. It does help native speakers as well.

I rate Grammarly very high because it has done so much for me. Not only did it help me improve my blog writing, but it also made me realize the writing mistakes that I have been doing for a long time. So I end this review by giving Grammarly a big thumbs-up.
