I was neither a book reader, nor I ever took online courses in the past. It all changed after 2015 when I randomly walked into a book store and bought a copy of Adam Grant’s book called Give and Take. Before that, I always thought I might not be interested in reading books. And, now, I almost read every day.
The same was the case with online courses until I signed up for a few free online courses and found them extremely helpful. I realized that if free courses could help a lot, then paid courses might be a goldmine of knowledge. Turns out, I was right about the paid courses.

I recently bought my first ever online course website subscription. Skillshare is a fantastic online course website that offers hundreds of online courses from experts in different fields. I signed up for Skillshare because I want to learn the following skills:
- Video Editing on DaVinci Resolve
- Running Facebook Ad Campaigns
- Amazon Affiliate Marketing
I’m off to a good start with the DaVinci Resolve course. I’ve downloaded 30+ lessons in my Skillshare app on my phone, and whenever I have time, I take a class that takes 6 to 10 minutes.

If you’re wondering why I bought a course website subscription, then here are four reasons why I did that:
1. I want to learn how to edit videos on DaVinci Resolve
I indeed want to hone in on my video editing skills on DaVinci Resolve. It’s a professional video editing software that a lot of film studios, YouTubers, and video editors use. I’ve switched from Filmora to DaVinci Resolve because I wanted to up my video editing game.
Before buying the Skillshare subscription, I tried watching a few videos on DaVinci Resolve on YouTube, but they didn’t make a huge difference. You can’t compare a 28-minute video tutorial with a 5-hour long course across 30+ lessons.
DaVinci Resolve isn’t the only thing that I want to learn. Read the next point, you’ll get it.
2. I get access to hundreds of paid courses
I’m not saying I just bought a Skillshare subscription for learning how to edit on DaVinci Resolve because I’m going to make the most of this purchase. I want to learn so many more things in the next 10 months or so. Now, I have access to hundreds of paid courses to learn different expertise so it’ll be fun.
When you look at the prices of the paid products, they always seem a lot, but this time around, I didn’t think much because I tried it for a month for free and I liked this platform. Now I’m even more excited to learn new stuff as I wouldn’t have the access to those contents otherwise.
3. I can download courses to watch offline
One of the best things about Skillshare is that it has an offline feature, meaning, you can download the course and watch it later. So apparently, you don’t necessarily have to be near Wi-Fi to learn or use your data connection while you’re away from home or the workplace. Download your course in your Skillshare app and take lessons when you’re away from the internet.
I’ve downloaded the whole DaVinci Resolve course into my mobile app, and I take lessons anytime I want. How good is that?
4. I can make money off their affiliate program
Are you not impressed with the affiliate program? What do you know about it? I’m fascinated by their affiliate program because I know that I can promote Skillshare and make money off my blog and YouTube channel.
One of the success secrets of affiliate marketing is the first-hand experience. If you aren’t using the product you’re promoting, people find it difficult to believe that it’s worth buying. I’d still buy and use Skillshare if there was no affiliate program because I know this resource is worth paying for.
Since they do have an affiliate program so it’s a bonus. You can earn a commission by promoting this tool.
Pricing
Skillshare offers a 30-day free trial, but you need a credit/debit card to sign-up for their account. Don’t worry, you can always cancel your subscription before the 30 days, in case you don’t want to buy their subscription. Make sure that you cancel it after 25 to 26 days if you don’t want to continue using it.
The price of the Skillshare subscription is $99 for a year.
Course Categories
Skillshare has a wide range of course categories, which makes this website a unique platform for learners. If you’re wondering what types of courses are available on Skillshare, then let me share the categories.
You can find courses related to Animation, Drawing, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, Business, Entrepreneurship, Freelance & Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Marketing, Productivity, Technology, Data Science, Game Design, Mobile Development, Product Management, Web Development, Lifestyle, Crafts, Culinary, Gaming, Health & Wellness, and Languages.
Mobile Apps
They do have mobile apps for both iOS and Android. So you can download their app on your smartphone and continue using your Skillshare subscription on your phone. Isn’t that great?
Final Words
I think Skillshare is a fantastic tool for online learning. Since I’m using it and taking classes almost every day so I can tell you that I’m going to make the most of this online course tool. One of the advantages of a Skillshare subscription is that you don’t have to subscribe or purchase individual courses from time to time. Some course platforms have such a pricing model, which may seem a little odd.
