Filmora9 to DaVinci Resolve: Why I Switched

Loading

I’ve switched from Filmora video editing software to DaVinci Resolve. However, the transition from Filmora9 to DaVinci Resolve wasn’t easy at all, but I’ll tell you later on how I’m learning how to use Resolve.

I have been using Filmora since 2017. It’s a good video editor for beginners who don’t have to do complex video editing. If you’re dealing with cinematic shots, cluttered timelines, slo-mo clips, multiple audio layers, and more, then find a Filmora alternative. Maybe, give Filmora Pro a try.

I have been making videos for the past three years on YouTube. I have a vlogging channel and a couple of more YouTube channels. You might be wondering why I switched to DaVinci Resolve and the following things might be going through your mind:

  • Is DaVinci Resolve worth it?
  • Is DaVinci Resolve free or paid?
  • Is it an alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro?
  • Is this video editing software easy to use?
  • Can a beginner use DaVinci Resolve?

Relax.

You’ll find the answers below.

Filmora9 to DaVinci Resolve - Best video editing software

Here are four reasons why I switched from Filmora 9 to DaVinci Resolve:

1. It’s available for free

Paid softwares aren’t accessible to everyone. Some can’t afford it and others don’t have a credit card or PayPal to buy subscriptions. Thanks to Blackmagic Design, DaVinci Resolve is completely free. However, there is a paid version for studios, which has advanced features. However, this shouldn’t concern an average video maker or editor. So if you haven’t found a fantastic video editing software yet, go to this page and download DaVinci Resolve right away.

2. It runs smoothly on my computer

I have been using Filmora for quite some time. It has gotten way better than it was back then. They kept on rolling updates, and it became a better software. Furthermore, you can optimize Filmora 9 for smooth playback during editing. It does the job for me, but I like to experiment.

I got my RAM upgraded from 4GB to 12GB and DaVinci Resolve got even better.

3. It’s a professional editing software

If you go through their website, you’ll find out that it’s been around for quite some time now. Plus, a lot of Hollywood studios use this software to edit high-budget films too. It shows the quality and effectiveness of this video editing software.

I have been using this software for a couple of months, and I’m so glad that I switched to DaVinci Resolve because it has made my life easier. I still have Filmora 9 installed on my PC, but I rarely use that.

4. It doesn’t require the internet

One of the biggest reasons why I switched from Filmora9 to DaVinci Resolve is that it doesn’t require the internet to run. Filmora used to be the same until a couple of years ago when they upgraded the software. Since then you need to sign-in to the software, which means, you need the internet to use this software. It becomes a nightmare when you’re traveling and don’t have internet access.

On the other hand, DaVinci Resolve doesn’t have such a requirement. I freely edit videos when I’m traveling out of town. It’s so much easier this way.

Filmora X is an excellent beginner-level video editor. It’s a perfect video editing software for YouTubers, vloggers, and small businesses. Download the trial!

Conclusion

A lot of YouTube subscribers ask me about my camera gear and video editing software. I’ll share the link of this blog post with them because I briefly explained why I switched from Filmora to DaVinci Resolve.

Let me clarify that this blog post doesn’t necessarily mean that Filmora is bad; it just doesn’t suit me anymore. If DaVinci Resolve seems overwhelming to you, you can try out Filmora for simple editing. I’m saying because Resolve did look scary to me as well. I haven’t had a chance to try out Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro before. So I had no idea how to use such a professional video editing software. Thanks to Skillshare, I enrolled in a DaVinci Resolve course that taught me how to use this software. Now I’m good at video editing on DaVinci Resolve.

I do have a lifetime membership of Filmora and I’ll continue using it. Plus, I can’t wait for new versions of Filmora to try out. So if you want to buy Filmora, go ahead.

Perhaps because I work remotely when I’m out of town or traveling. I indeed try to make the most of my time. I don’t read books when I’m traveling so I like to edit videos when I travel.

I’m excited about using DaVinci Resolve.
